I’ve written a lot of stuff on this site on attraction marketing and many of you have used these powerful principles to attract leads online in an effortless manner. But I see far too many folks still hitting up people online using direct tactics to get someone interested in looking at their business opportunity.

I cringe. It’s awful to watch. Most times, they are poorly taught.

The following post Seth Godin wrote is simply title how to make money online and one of things I thought as I was reading it was “gee, there are some things in this that tie in with attraction marketing”. For example, how about the following:

- focus on trust
- figure out how to create value
- become the best at something that people value
- learn to lead

Sound familiar? That’s just four tips. Seth has listed 21!

1. The first step is to stop Googling things like, “how to make money online.” Not because you shouldn’t want to make money online, but because the stuff you’re going to find by doing that is going to help you lose money online. Sort of like asking a casino owner how to make money in Vegas…

2. Don’t pay anyone for simple and proven instructions on how to achieve this goal. In particular, don’t pay anyone to teach you how to write or sell manuals or ebooks about how to make money online.

3. Get rich slow.

4. Focus on the scarce resource online: attention. If you try to invent a way to take cheap attention and turn it into cash, you will fail. The attention you want isn’t cheap, it’s difficult to get via SEO and it rarely scales. Instead, figure out how to earn expensive attention.

5. In addition to attention, focus on trust. Trust is even more scarce than attention.

6. Don’t worry so much about the ‘online’ part. Instead, figure out how to create value. The online part will take care of itself.

7. Don’t quit your day job. Start evenings and weekends and figure it out with small failures.

8. Build a public reputation. A good one, and be sure that you deserve it, and that it will hold up to scrutiny…..

But what is the best social networking site for business and which social network is best for network marketing? To tell you the truth, I really don’t have a definitive answer other than you need to be using several of them in conjunction with each other.

The top four that should be part of the promotion and attraction marketing tools in your arsenal are:

- Facebook
- Twitter
- LinkedIn
- Google+

So, no surprises there. A report I came across recently at Mashable.com might just be the best five minutes you spend online today as they try to answer “which social network should you use?” Each of the top four networks is analyzed including what it’s best for, who uses it and how many users it has.

For example, the report suggests that Facebook is best for…”interacting on a more personal level”.

My definition of social networks and their power is they give you the opportunity to expand your neighborhood and give you the chance to meet or do business with folks you may never have had the chance to meet and do business with.

Does that make sense? It’s a little like internet network marketing with the internet giving networkers the chance to expand their networks to a worldwide audience rather than be confined to their own local neighborhood.

This is a report you might want to bookmark and share with your teams.

Want to make the most of the social web? It’s more complicated than just posting status updates at random and seeing what sticks.

When is Facebook most effective? When are you better off using Twitter, or LinkedIn? And what exactly is Google+ good for, anyway?

You offer this to your audience for free in exchange for their email address.

Here are is a made-up example:

You offer a recorded call with your 6 figure earning Double Diamond upline, and how she built her MLM business using “these 5 low budget strategies.”

Remember, people don’t care about your opportunity.

It’s the result they want. They care about the result that that opportunity can bring them, and they are looking to buy into someone who has already achieved the same results.

Market results, not the opportunity.

So you freely give something away of value that represents getting results in exchange for the email address…..

Here’s the bottom line; with an email list you don’t care what happens to your rankings because you still have the core of your business.

Affiliate marketers with no list and who rely on getting good rankings to sell other people’s products may make money, but they are still at the whims of Google who can de-index their sites from the search listing at any “tick of the clock” if there’s something they don’t like.

Then I had a change of heart. In the main, MLM folks generally like to read the same stuff don’t they? Well, I am going to list some of the internet network marketing blogs I read all the time and I suggest you make these a part of your staple reading diet to.

Why?

Because you are on a constant learning curve and the thing you need to consider is, if you want your blog ranking high and being read by lots of folks then why reinvent the wheel when you simply take bits and pieces from some of the best in the business and apply it to your blog. Make sense.

Before I share I need to confess that the list below are not all MLM blogs. They cover different aspects of working online and each one is extremely useful in it’s own right.

This is not going to be a long post and I will simply list the blogs below but top of the list for me other than InternetNetworkMarketingReview.com is Ann Sieg’s The Renegade Blog. Not because it gets updated every day but because it contains so much “in the trenches” style information that can help you take your business to another level.

Second on the list is Ty Tribble’s Husband, Dad and Entrepreneur blog and again, while Ty does it a little differently than Ann, learning from how he does it and what he posts about is golden.

The others include:

- CopyBlogger.com/blog
- Mashable.com
- SocialMediaExaminer.com
- TrafficGenerationCafe.com
- SearchEngineLand.com

That’s just a shortlist and I have much more to add to the list but I don’t want to overwhelm you right now. So how do I utilize these blogs? As I said, look at what is written, the way it’s written, how the ads are posted etc. and just learn. If there’s something you like, apply it to your model and test it. Basically, get ideas for posting on your own blog.

In my previous post I said to learn from the so called spam that lands in your inbox. Do the same with other marketer’s blogs. Make note of what catches your interest. If there’s a story or post you like, curate it and add it to your blog with a reference to the original story.

Blogging isn’t rocket science and finding material should never be hard to find.

One of the things that overwhelms in this business is distraction. Distraction when working online is usually caused by all the information you receive from different marketers. It’s a little like traveling through the strip in Vegas and being dazzled by the bright lights.

This is where I was several years ago until one marketer who became a mentor pulled me aside and said why don’t you change your mindset and instead of being overwhelmed by the emails you receive from other marketers, think of them as actually being important to growing your business.

So instead of treating them as a chore to go through and complaining about the fact that many times they are marketing to me to sell me something, just tell yourself you are in control and that the information you are getting can help you build your business.

As an example, instead looking at the copy I receive on a daily basis as spam, I learn from the copy writing and the marketing strategies being used and look at ways on how to apply them to my own business.

I have a swipe file of the ones I like and the ones that actually catch my attention and make me read them. I try to analyze what made me read them and why. And when I figure it out, I use them in some form in my business.

Sure, many marketers will send me an offer or two but again, you are in control; you decide whether it fits into your business model and if it does, buy it. But if you buy it, use it.

So in a nutshell, instead of looking at all the marketing material that lands in your inbox as a negative, look at it as a positive and dedicate a small amount of time each day to sift through the helpful stuff and then file it away. The reality is, most times the stuff you file away you may never get to use but occasionally, you will.

Just as an exercise, when you check your email again make a note of the ones that catch your attention. Copy the headlines and save them for use in your own business.

Well, in a nutshell…YES!

Actually, I ran across this in my emails and nearly deleted it. I have an itchy trigger finger and if emails don’t grab my attention in less than a second they get flushed!

Anyways, this email did and it’s funny because I thought exactly what I mentioned above…”oh no…”; but read it anyway. So I thought how do I publish this for you without just posting someone else’s email? Well, I found the original post and it was first publish just under a year ago.

It’s aimed at home business owners and one of the things I’ve found as an internet network marketer which I got on top of very early is that working alone from home might sound great, but very few people can do it. Why? Because they don’t have supervision; there’s no one to keep them honest and most will soon start to get slack and make excuses for why they can’t do something.

Folks, it’s not easy working from home alone and that’s why you need to keep reading these “oh no, not another how to stay on track with your home business” type articles.

If you have got off track then this will be the best five minutes you spend in front of your computer today. I guarantee it.

I can’t tell you how important this is. If you did the work to create a workable plan like I suggested, just follow it! For example, let’s say you decided that you would use article marketing to get free visitors for your site. Your plan was to write one new article every other day, so you could add a few new ones per week. You’d be surprised at how few people will actually stick to a plan like that.

It’s a reasonable plan, and when you think about it, it’s not so hard to get it done. But most people give up after a month (not sure why that’s such a common time period, but it is).Here’s a practical way to stick to your plan. There are two steps. The first step is deciding that you WILL do it.

I know that sounds insane, since your problem might be that you’re not doing it. But listen, you have to lay down the law for yourself. Tell yourself that your future depends on sticking to your plan. Then refuse to compromise on it.The next step is to kill the one thing that gets you off track the most…procrastination…..

I was looking at some of my bookmarks from way back the other day and came across the following short video where Jim Rohn teaches the why behind personal development. I hear from folks who are simply stuck in a cycle like a hamster on a wheel and most times I can pinpoint their problem right away.

They are doing the same old things over and over and expecting something different. When I tell them this many respond a little “offishly” with something like…

“Yes, yes, I’ve heard that all before; it’s insanity right? I know all that stuff.”

Okay, but are you doing anything to change yourself so you can get something different and better from your circumstances? In many cases, the light then goes on.

“Oh, I’ve got to change?”

If you are really struggling in making any progress in your home business take a step back and watch the following video. Jim Rohn talks about two secrets to becoming successful in home business. They are that your income is in direct proportion to the value you give others. Sound familiar. This is stuff Ann Sieg teaches with great results.

And the second secret? The amount of income you make reflects your mindset. The quality of your thinking determines what you get in life. Change it and change just about anything you want to change.

Here are some of the take-aways from the presentation:

- too many people blame everything and everyone else; people are comfortable with a blame list and find it hard to move out of that comfort zone

- do something different in the next 90 days that you did in the previous 90 days

- it’s not what happens that determines the major part of your future; the key is what you do about it meaning starting a process of change

- do this and you’ll start doing different things with the same circumstances…you cannot change the circumstances but you can change yourself

So, did that make sense? Yes, you may have heard it before but if you haven’t tried this I urge you too. If you are struggling right now then it’s a fair bet what you are doing now is not working.

At a recent meeting a prospect posed the question that went along the lines of “what are the steps to network marketing success?” It created a lengthy pause in the room but between several of us, we were able to combine our thoughts and provide a solid answer.

The truth is, my steps to achieving internet network marketing success involve consistency. Dean Jackson is one of the smartest marketing men on the planet. He once said…

“People start to make money online when they’ve been doing something CONSISTENTLY for a minimum of 90 days. Before 90 days – not so much. But at the 90 day point, things start to happen and take off.”

Why is that?

Anyways, an article I saw at internetnetworkmarketingmentors.com caught my interest and it listed the 12 daily methods of operation. It explains that there is not one thing that will achieve success in this business but a variety of things that when they all come together and are performed in a consistent fashion, then magic can happen.

It’s an excellent read and one that will challenge you to get some consistency in your efforts on a daily basis as you build and consolidate your business.

It’s not one thing that creates your millionaire status in this business.  It’s a bunch of things compiled and completed every single day that translate and affect everything we do for our business, making us more successful each step of the way.

Each day there are certain things I do in my business to create lead generation.  None is more important than the other because every task fits somewhere and does something especially important in order to make sense of all of the other tasks I perform.  Some days I get mixed up and frustrated and overwhelmed.  Some days I’m spot on and I am a machine making use of my time like a Ninja Turtle.  Ha!

So, what are the things you perform on a daily basis that drive you towards success in internet network marketing? Do you agree that being consistent over a period of time can build the momentum necessary to propel you towards achieving the success you desire?

Just don’t get being busy confused with being productive.

And do you know what? The answer usually lies in how they are structuring their day. In other words, much of the stuff they are doing has nothing to do with building a business. The bottom line is, as humans we think we can juggle more than one thing at a time. Maybe some of you can but the truth is, focusing on one task at a time is when you get results.

The home business landscape is “littered with the corpses” of people who have simply thrown up their hands and declared it’s just too much to handle or cries of burnout. But much of it was self inflicted. Looking busy doesn’t mean you are being productive.

One of the problems I see in internet network marketing is that instead of building their primary business which is what they need to be doing, people branch off into other areas of making money online. Suddenly they notice money making opportunities everywhere and before long, using the internet to generate leads gets pushed to the background.

As a network marketer, the reason you are using the internet is to generate leads. Get good at that first, build your business and then look at other ways to generate income if you want.

Meanwhile, another “killer” for productivity is technology. Getting distracted is the number one issue. There’s an excellent article at blogs.hbr.org which looks at the magic of doing one thing at a time and how technology inhibits being productive. The first solution is my favorite where the author suggests setting time blocks when working.

As a writer, I work in blocks of 45-50 minutes and then take a 15 minute break. It works wonders for increasing productivity.

Why is it that between 25% and 50% of people report feeling overwhelmed or burned out at work?

It’s not just the number of hours we’re working, but also the fact that we spend too many continuous hours juggling too many things at the same time.

What we’ve lost, above all, are stopping points, finish lines and boundaries. Technology has blurred them beyond recognition. Wherever we go, our work follows us, on our digital devices, ever insistent and intrusive. It’s like an itch we can’t resist scratching, even though scratching invariably makes it worse.

Tell the truth: Do you answer email during conference calls (and sometimes even during calls with one other person)? Do you bring your laptop to meetings and then pretend you’re taking notes while you surf the net? Do you eat lunch at your desk? Do you make calls while you’re driving, and even send the occasional text, even though you know you shouldn’t?…..

Facebook has been a huge platform for people looking to build their brand online and it’s been very important for network marketers. Many have abused it in using hard sell tactics which have backfired but those that have learned and applied Ann Sieg’s attraction marketing principles have benefited in a big way.

But what about the Timeline changes? How will they affect what you already have and how can you use Facebook Timeline to build your lead base?

Well, we mentioned Mashable.com above and recently, they posted an article listing the main changes that every marketer needs to know and followed them up with a recommendation. That’s what you need to really take notice of.

Today Facebook announced to brand marketers the world over that, within the month, everything they knew about fan Pages on Facebook would be overturned. While you get your brand ready for the new Timeline format, here are six important changes to keep top-of-mind.

1. Updated Look and Feel

What’s new: The format of Timeline for brands is quite similar to Timeline for personal profiles. It employs a cover photo at the top of the Page, and the Page is separated into two main columns by a dividing line, which represents the passage of time. This format provides brands with new options for self-expression: They can outline their corporate history with milestones (such as product launches, store openings, etc.) to construct a narrative for their audience.

Recommendation: Milestones present an important and dramatic opportunity to educate the public, humanize the brand and remove a perception of corporate anonymity. Our analyses of Page engagement have continually shown that brands posting content that depicts behind-the-scenes activities, exclusive updates or promotions encourages user interactions and promotes higher engagement rates. Using interesting milestones to craft the story of the brand over time (and updating the Timeline with new milestones as they happen) can help to stimulate conversations around major achievements…..

Many of you might be thinking it’s all too hard and I can understand that. If you have only been online for a short time then you need to know that this is the “norm” rather than the exception. Internet marketing is a constantly evolving beast and those who change with it and adapt have a huge advantage.
