Network marketing in particular employs cold calling tactics and yes, while systems such as Ann Sieg’s Renegade System have changed this to a degree, the simple fact remains that unless you overcome the fear of cold calling a prospect then you will be leaving lots of money on the table.

The biggest mistake most home business owners and network marketers who need leads to grow their business is they put too much emphasis on themselves and not enough on the customers. This “me attitude” is a killer in home business and it generally creates the pushy salesperson type we all hate.

Now if you are generating leads online for your home business then this also applies to you. While your leads will come through some type of opt in process and that in effect is first contact, you still need to speak with the prospect and this second step is where most people lose them.

And 9 times out of 10, it’s because they make it about themselves and not the prospect.

Keith Rosen has posted an excellent training video on You Tube about how to overcome the fear of cold calling and touches on this aspect. It’s a short video, just two minutes but it could completely change your success rate in signing up prospects for your home business.

Remember, at the end of the day cold calling is just a potential conversation between two people. Make it about them and your fears will quickly melt away.

It’s also important to remember you don’t need a massive list to earn a full time income online. We mentioned Ann Sieg’s Renegade system as an example of a big list. Ann built a huge list with her report The 7 Great Lies Of Network Marketing. It was a value-packed report and would have been worth paying for.

Here’s what you need to know…a list of 1000 targeted subscribers will give you much healthier pay days than a list of 50,000 who are made up of just curiosity seekers not really interested in your niche topic. Many big lists are made up this way but those who hone in on specific audiences just interested in your niche topic and solutions to problems are the ones who consistently profit from their lists.

Most people want to build an opt in list but for some reason are frozen when it comes time to create a product. Or many simply think they have noting to share. You need to stop thinking like this. Everyone has something to share, seriously.

Here’s a list of things you can do right now to create a product that you can start giving away and building your list:

#1.. Can you write an article? Can you write five articles on the same topic looking at it from several angles or providing five different solution options? You should be saying yes and if so, you have got yourself a nice little 2000-2500 word report which you can give to your subscribers in exchange for their email.

#2.. Now you have the report, why not create it into an audio or a video. An MP3 recording to go along with the written report will look huge in terms of value to a potential subscriber. You can record it yourself or head to Guru.com and post a job for someone to record it for you.

#3.. Do an interview with a leader in your niche. If it’s internet network marketing then there are plenty of well known people you can interview. And it doesn’t need to be a guru. It could be someone in your upline who can spend ten minutes talking about the keys to succeeding in internet network marketing.

#4.. Head to Master-Resale-Rights.com/ and sign up. Shop their extensive library of PLR products and choose something that allows you to give away and related to your niche. It will cost you several dollars initially but could be worth plenty in the long run.

#5.. Contact well known people in your niche and ask if they have content such as articles you can use to create a report. Tell them they will get credit obviously as you promote them but you also gain credibility by using their name in your promotions.

You may have thought of other ways to create your initial giveaway product. That’s great. Just make sure it’s totally related to your niche. The secrets to creating opt in lists is giving away something of value first in exchange for an email address. Once they are on your list, don’t stop the free stuff and keep building a relationship with them.

Well firstly let me say that most of the gurus with big lists have been building their lists for a long time. I have often read Ann Sieg stating that her message is going out to several hundred thousand people. Now that would be nice wouldn’t it but you have to remember, she has been building her list for several years.

This email will be split into two parts because it’s important to describe the benefits of building an opt in list firstly and why you need to build one. We’ll also give you the main thing subscribers want from you to get on your list. The second email will be about creating a product…what you need to entice people with to get on you list in the first place.

Why You Need To Create An Opt In List?

It’s very simple, with a list you could get all your sites de-listed by Google yet while it would affect some of your income stream, with an opt in list, you have a resource that will continue to make you money. It’s like working for a company and having your own band of loyal subscribers; if you left that company your salary would stop but you still have your subscriber list to market to.

Now don’t get the idea that just because you have a subscriber list that you can inundate them with marketing offers. Do that and they’ll quickly unsubscribe. You need to give them what they want. They obviously opted in to your list because of the value they saw in what you were giving away. You were potentially or had potentially the solution to their problem.

Can you see where we are heading here?

Give people what they want and they will be loyal to you for as long as you maintain an opt in list.

Let’s take Ann Sieg and the Renegade system as an example. Ann has continued provided value to her readers and it started with her classic free report The 7 Great Lies Of Network Marketing. That report was easily a $39 value but it was given away free and in exchange, people gave Ann their email address.

But she didn’t stop there. More free training coupled with paid products and her growing list soon came to trust her. That’s how it works. When people trust you and you develop a strong relationship with them you can “write your own ticket.”

But what do you give people in the first place if you are new to internet network marketing and don’t have a product? We’ll take a look at this in our second part of this series, how to create opt in lists.

If you said yes then welcome to the club. It’s one of the spin-offs of becoming an internet network marketer. In fact, It’s like a disease but the good news is, it’s not terminal. You can beat it and beat it easily.

Don’t worry, I’ve been there and gone through all the procrastination trials and tribulations. We recently asked…how do you make money in network marketing and the simple answer is through sponsoring and creating product volume.

But unless you can start to focus on the right things again then you will stay in this information overload rut and it will totally consume you.

I’ve got some tips to start breaking out and getting back to making money with MLM. Some of these may shock you and upset some of the guru types but believe me, it needs to be done.

1. First thing you need to do is unsubscribe from most of the marketing lists you are on. Yes, some of the gurus suggest signing onto these lists but they are on top of their game and can afford the time to spend going through this stuff. You don’t.

2. Think back to what it was that got you interested in internet network marketing and focus back on that. If it was the Renegade system them focus on it. If it was Ty Tribble’s MLM Blog Secrets course then focus on it. If you are writing articles for syndication then focus on it. You get the picture.

3. Once you have everything in order you need to start getting to work. Your business is at a delicate stage. You don’t have a big downline yet and things will fall apart if you start to neglect what’s important in it.

Okay, that was a little drastic wasn’t it but believe me, it needs to be done. Unless you have the courage to dump dead wood, stuff that is crippling your focus and preventing you from doing the real things that make money in MLM, then it will be a waste of time continuing.

You see, I have a theory about the weight being lifted off your shoulders thing. My theory is it’s all the stuff you gather through life that sticks to you like glue and gradually wears you down. It’s all the trauma and bad stuff you would have gone through, the insults you have collected, the put downs you’ve had to endure, in fact, anything that could have had a negative impact on you at any stage of your life.

When you pass on, I’m thinking that’s all released and you go back to that pure form you were in when you were born.

So once again, how does this tie in with internet network marketing? Believe me, it does.

If you were suddenly given the chance to experience that pure, unpolluted form again from birth and were presented with a network marketing opportunity or came across the Renegade system training, how would you approach it. Would you suddenly be filled with bouts of insecurities because you’ve been told many times you can’t; or would you be filled with a lot of suspicion wondering whether you are going to be scammed?

Spend a few minutes thinking about it. It’s actually a good exercise and will get you thinking long and hard.

Let’s suppose you hadn’t heard of Ann Sieg or Ty Tribble for example and they presented you with the chance to train with them. You do some research and you find they are the real deal and accept.

But what if you have been battered online trying training course after training course, most of it bad and dumping lots of money into what appears to be a bottomless pit. You would surely be skeptical by the time you came across Ann Sieg or Ty Tribble wouldn’t you?

Here’s the reason for this post. Lots of people write to me just wanting an endorsement of the Renegade system and MLM Blog Secrets. They want some guarantee that they won’t be scammed. Just for the record, no you won’t!

Someone who hasn’t been polluted by all the crap they’ve had presented to them are going to be able to make a judgment much more quickly. Here’s my advice to you. Unsubscribe from the countless emails you receive from marketers trying to sell you something. These suck up your time and most of them never provide any information you can apply. They are just hammering you with sales material. Start fresh and follow those who are making a difference.

This was crucial when I ventured into the minefield that was internet network marketing back in 2004 and I remember the thoughts going through my mind back then wasn’t how to make money online but would someone take the time without charging me an “arm and a leg to show me.”

One of the biggest dangers in network marketing today is people are spending too much time worrying about the marketing rather than the networking. And it’s easy to understand why.
