How did they do it?

Simple. They split-tested and while many of you may just be starting to use online marketing for your network marketing business, there are also many of you who have been doing this for a while now using attraction marketing strategies either through Ann Sieg’s courses or Ty Tribble’s MLM Blog Secrets course.

Now I want to make one thing clear; they were able to increase their opt in rate by over 300% but that doesn’t mean you will be able to. However, by making the changes listed, you can experience an increase which is the aim of this test.

But one of the things many don’t really understand is that internet network marketing is a moving target and it evolves constantly when it comes to promotional strategies. Things change and if you are not testing what works with your opt in page then you could be missing out on a lot of leads for your business.

Now we don’t want to get into offering people something of value to get on your list tday; that’s a topic for another day but the following report from the team at Aweber really shows how much juice you can extract by changing things up and implementing what works today; not yesterday.

They provide examples of their old opt in page and the new page with the changes and give a detailed analysis of why the new additions worked. In a nutshell, the successful tweaks included:

- giving people a reason to opt in
- adding testimonials which they show you how to get
- speak directly to your potential leads about the profit motive
- making it easy for people to sign up

If you’ve been doing email marketing for over a week, you’ve probably heard all about split testing: why you should, easy split tests you can implement today, split testing your web forms and calls to action, and so on.

If people liked email as much as they like cats, “test it!” would be our “I can has cheezburger?” (It practically is around AWeber.)

You’d think there’s no way we wouldn’t be testing everything possible around here, right?

Wrong.

I just got done running a test and it reminded me why we go back to this topic over and over.

The Sad Story of a Neglected Landing Page

Thanks to loyal readers like you who read, comment and tell other people about the email marketing tips here (thanks!), this blog and its readership have grown steadily over the past 6 years.

We’ve done a number of things over the years to make it grow faster. One important thing that has made it easier to build our blog newsletter is our subscribe page, which we link up in our emails and also push people to from the signup form in the blog’s sidebar.

Many of you have heard of the importance of having a website for your network marketing business. Internet network marketing is now a buzz term and building a website, preferably a blog is vital to you being able to brand yourself.

Remember, it starts with getting your site posts or pages indexed before the traffic will come unless you have a huge email list but I’m betting 99.9% of you don’t.

Mark simply goes through each of the strategies you can use to get your site in front of lots of people. It’s simple and straight to the point and will be the best 5-10 minutes of your time spent online today building your business.

In the last Traffic Travis newsletter, we looked at the importance of having a Sitemap for your website. Today you are going to learn how to get web pages indexed quickly, especially if you have created new pages or an entirely new website.

Getting your pages indexed in search engines is important – without being indexed, your website will be all but impossible to find.

Today we are going to cover some useful strategies for getting your website indexed fast. These include:

* Social bookmarking & signals.
* Submitting articles.
* Internal linking.
* Pinging your website.
* Comment on authority blogs.
* Updating content regularly…..

Google likes to see diversification in your backlinks. Using each of the methods in this post will give you that. What I suggest is spend a little time with each one once a week until you have used them all. Don’t try and apply them all at once. It’s not natural.

And taking action on the information and training you get rather than letting it build up on your hard drive or on your bookshelf is a success step many, in fact, most fail to take. There are a lot of “junkies” out there who simply love to consume information and training but don’t ever act on it. That’s fine and everyone will be ready to move in their own time.

But the reality is, these folks won’t ever act because of things such as:

- procrastination
- information overload
- they want everything to be perfect before they start

Love this quote and this is something you can send to your prospects who are having trouble getting going; even making a phone call:

It’s as it implies…creating 30 day bursts of activity. You’ll see a lot of these being done right now by people energized by a new year but the truth is, why stop at one 30 day burst? Why not do one each month? Imagine how your business would look at the end of the year?

The truth is, there are quite a few but the problem with most of them is that they don’t come all inclusive. In other words, you get the piece of the puzzle in one area and then need to fork out more dollars to get the next piece. That is one of the annoying aspects of trying to build an online business.

But if you are a network marketer, you need to have an online presence at some stage, whether it’s today or sometime in the future. I really encourage you to start a blog. It’s easy. And it’s even easier with Ty’s MLM Blog Secrets course. I actually was in the process of putting a course together before MLM Blog Secrets came along; in fact, had started it but put it on hold when Ty released his. I couldn’t fault it.

As I’ve mentioned before, Ty Tribble is someone I listen to and although I am not connected with him in any way, he gives out a lot of information aim squarely at helping people attract leads into their network marketing business.

One of the things I have been saying all along, ever since attraction marketing became a buzz term five years ago, is that you cannot hope to go wholly and solely online and hope to build a sustainable business. You need to find a happy medium between online and offline. Ty Tribble says the same thing and while I took a little heat on it I never waivered from my thinking.

Network Marketing is all about creating relationships and if you think you can attract people into your business online and never have to talk to anyone then you are kidding yourself. Your business will crumble at some stage. There has to be an interaction between you and your prospect…that’s what network marketing is all about.

Anyways, Ty did a 30 minute webinar a little while ago and he outlines five simple steps to getting started online. He mentions some paid products in the video and seriously, ignore them if you have to. I have listed the links to some of the resources he mentions below. But as far as a free information webinar is concerned, they don’t come much better than this.

As a network marketer, branding is crucial when it comes to using social media and how you come across to people is going to have a big bearing on how many people take an interest in what you have to offer.

In the dating scene, profiles are the key to attracting people into your life you want to meet. In fact, in many cases, the profile is the make or break reason why someone will contact you or be attracted to you. It’s the same in creating interest in a network marketing business.

A recent report posted at mashable.com revealed the results of a study which showed how people looked at your Facebook profile, or any profile for that matter posted on social media sites. The results are interesting and you can use this information to your advantage.

In a nutshell, here are the four most important aspects of a profile that get attention:

- profile pictures
– job titles
– the people you know listed in the thumb nails
– prominent content

That’s just a quick summary but the profile picture is listed on top and that makes sense. It’s like window shopping; first impressions make all the difference. For branding purposes, it’s you people want to see, not a cartoon image or something way over the top.

Anyways, check out the images which revealed what the eye tracking study showed. This is pretty solid stuff if you are thinking of making an impression on potential prospects to your business through social media.

When potential dates, employers and friends glance at your online social profiles, what do they see? EyeTrackShop, a startup that runs eye-tracking studies for advertisers, helped Mashable find out by applying its technology to the profile pages of popular social networks.

The study used the webcams of 30 participants to record their eye movements as they were shown profile pages from Facebook, Google+, LinkedIn, Flickr, YouTube, Klout, Reddit, Digg, Tumblr, Twitter, StumbleUpon and Pinterest at 10-second intervals. What participants looked at on each page and in what order is recorded in the images below.

It’s not a perfect study. Thirty is a small sample size, and what draws attention on a profile likely varies depending on the content displayed. But we’ve hazarded making a few observations:…..

The problem with network marketing is that while people do make this kind of money, for most it’s short-lived. Why? Because there are just too many companies that are here today and gone tomorrow. Longevity in this business for a network marketing company is something special. Those that survive are doing something right.

Mark Yarnell is one of those big players in this industry I like to listen to. No, I have never been involved in a business with him. He just “shoots from the hip” and is one of those guys who keeps you in reality.

One of my favorite tips from Mark Yarnell is this…When you are looking for a network marketing company would you ask your mother to join it? Is this the type of company you would associate your mother with? He talks and write about core values which is something I resonate with. In other words, your core values need to match the company you are looking at.

We’ve spoken about sabotaging ourselves in recent weeks and it’s something I know too well; I’ve done it in a big way. Yarnell also talks about it this presentation. He looks at it from a slightly different perspective. He looks at it from the angle of if you do something just for the money without lining up your core values then at some stage, that sabotage effect will take over.

The following video is long; it’s over 90 minutes but for sheer value and education it’s worth watching. In fact, you probably don’t need to listen to all of it because he runs through his 5 tips to reach a 100k a month in network marketing in the first half of the presentation. Just put it on and continue doing something else. Make it your success listening for the day.

Mark Yarnell has been around a long time and one of the main reasons you need to listen to what he says in applying success tips to your business is because he talks and swaps notes with other big players in the industry. His time with Success Magazine meant he met and wrote about the biggest earners and most successful players in network marketing.

Social media is like any other platform for getting your brand across to potential networking affiliates. It should form part of your marketing strategy for sharing information and helping others solve problems. Did you notice I didn’t say sell stuff to people?

Using social media as a platform merely to sell to people will soon get you a reputation as a “snake oil salesman” and people will quickly tune out. People on social media sites don’t like to be sold to. Well, you may be asking if that’s true then why is it so popular for network marketers?

Well, the truth is, only a small percentage of network marketers are actually doing well using social media. The majority are bombing out big time.

Why?

For the reason I just mentioned. They are going on platforms like Facebook and selling. It’s not going to work. But did you notice above I used the term “sharing”. If you did then you have figured out the key to making social media work for network marketing. It’s all about sharing. It’s all about gaining trust. And it’s all about becoming known as somewhat of an expert in whatever it is you are sharing. Once you reach this stage, things will start to happen; people will listen to recommendations.

Doesn’t this sound a little like Ann Sieg’s attraction marketing principles? Yes it does and it’s the same thing. Teaching and sharing on social media will get you much more attention than if you simply went on and blasted the latest offer you have.

I ran across an article at entrepreneur.com today from small business expert Gail Goodman who posted seven great tips creating successful holiday marketing campaigns. The information relates to using social media and I wanted to share it with you. Much of it is what we’ve just discussed.

It’s no longer a question of either-or. Savvy entrepreneurs know that both email and social media are important parts of a successful marketing strategy. Using the right tools to get the right message to the right audience is critical over the holidays, when businesses and organizations are pulling out all the stops to capture consumers’ attention and dollars.

So how can you engage customers when competition is so fierce? Here’s some good news for small businesses on a budget: Social media extends the life and reach of your email marketing campaigns. It empowers marketers to better engage their audiences, and gives customers the means to share content and offers with their networks. If email gets your message heard, then social media spreads the message even farther.

But for today, I will talk briefly about the number one driving force to building a successful network marketing business. Ready for it?

FEAR…

Yes, it’s fear. If you can go into a network marketing business with fear driving you then magic can happen. Many people ask…”what do you mean by fear”? Well, the fear of failing…letting yourself down; letting your loved ones down and this is a biggie…letting your peers down.

I want to illustrate one case where fear drove someone I know to a six figure a month residual income in his network marketing business. I’ll never forget the night I heard him tell the story of why he decided to try MLM. He was one of those who hated anyone wanting to show him a business opportunity. In fact, he was one of the heckler types in the crowd who you would expect to yell B*#&hit.

Anyway, I go to his opportunity meeting to see what it was all about miffed that I wasn’t asked a lot earlier but that’s another story. There he was with microphone in hand talking about a business that changed his life and how it could change ours. Then he asked the question…”Who’s scared?” No one put their hand up and he frowned. “Well, I think you might be wasting your time. I’m looking for people who are gripped with fear about their future.”

He went on, “I’ll explain what I mean.” So he proceeded to tell us why he started with this particular company; it had nothing to do with the product but all to do with creating an income that could rescue him from an ordinary retirement and the looks of disappointment from his family when he would meet with them on retirement day. He would let them know how they needed to tighten their belts because this is all he could offer them.

He described it in such a way that you could see the emotion on the face of the people in the audience. Suddenly they were thinking with a sense of urgency.

And that’s the key. When fear creates urgency you become an unstoppable force. Can you see what we are getting at. It’s okay to be scared. Fear of the unknown is natural but successful people see past it to achieve their goals.

My friend looked past the unknown and saw himself standing in front of his family giving them a pathetic excuse as to why he couldn’t offer them more. It is that fearful image that motivated him.

The reason I’ve found is simple; people reach a certain level and become comfortable. While they may have reached their goal that barrier to go the extra step is just too great and sometimes it doesn’t take that much to break through it.

I was a classic example where I wanted to reach a certain level in a network marketing business several years ago and reached it in nine months. It’s amazing, I didn’t set any goals after that and just got comfortable with what I had done. But the truth was, I really wanted to go further but my mind had be conditioned to reach that specific target and when I did, with no other challenges set, I went into comfort mode.

Joshua Foer is someone well qualified to teach what separates the average from the experts in any field. He gives a 17 minute video presentation and highlights four specific things you need to overcome and master to reach greatness. I loved this presentation when I saw and I’m sure you will really appreciate it too. Here’s a little of what you’ll learn:

When most of us learn a new skill, we work to get just “good enough” and then we go on autopilot. We hit what journalist and bestselling author Joshua Foer calls the “OK Plateau,” where we have gained sufficient skills for our needs and we stop pushing ourselves.

Ty talks about passion in your network marketing business and it’s what the majority work of to stay focused and build their business. But he doesn’t entirely agree with that philosophy and cites his own passion which drives him to business success. He says you need to ask yourself…if you have a passion that drives your business building strategy other than your passion for the business, then you will probably need funds to be able to service it.

So he asks…how will you fund your passion? Figure out what your passion is and once you do, then you can work the vehicle that will help you to fund it. It’s a fascinating look at how passion will get you to achieving your financial goals. And don’t worry, it’s only about 30 minutes long.

I remember when I went to a business opportunity meeting the presenter got my interest when he talked about how his passion drove him to successfully building his business. He talked about his passion being his family and how he didn’t want to let them down. He placed a lot of importance in providing for them financially.

He said he would fast forward to retirement day and being confronted by his family with disappointed looks in their eyes. Reason being; he only had enough money in the retirement kitty for them to just get by. He wanted to be able to give them more. That image haunted him and drove him to build his business. That’s powerful stuff and got the fire lit underneath me.
