Wow, I can imagine I’ll get a bit of heat on that one but stick with me here for a moment. One of the biggest peeves I have with the network marketing industry is this notion that having a job or a J.O.B. is a bad thing. It’s not. Ann Sieg published a classic free report called the 7 Great Lies Of Network Marketing several years ago detailing some of the myths about network marketing you need to know about.

The “no job” angle should be added because it should never be thrown at people as a reason to join an MLM business. Sure, people hate their jobs in the main or should I say, they hate the travel and the environment more than the actual job itself.

But think for a moment, you are prospecting someone who is barely making ends meet and their job is basically keeping them from getting on the wrong side of the ledger. How would you feel if you told them you have an opportunity for them to leave their job and they did and then six months later, for various reasons, they became one of the 95% of people who fail at network marketing. They would be “up the creek without a paddle.”

Cathie Heath at CathieHeath.com has recorded a brilliant video on the topic of network marketing and J.O.B.’s.

She says…”However, there’s a tragic way of thinking in the network marketing industry that can cause people to think of themselves as failures, ruin lives, etc…..Don’t fall victim to this mindset…and please, don’t perpetuate it…..”

Again, she may take a little heat for saying it and I recommend you watch the video and really get the message behind what she is saying.

MLM recruiting is tough enough but when people join your network marketing business and then drop out a month later it’s a “hard pill to swallow.” Why did they drop out? Most likely because they weren’t ready for battle.

The worst thing you can do is send an MLM recruit into the field of battle unprepared because whatever enthusiasm they have at this stage will most likely be shot down in flames and usually by the people who love them most. It’s one of the anomalies of an industry that is a sticking point even for successful MLMers…the picture painted to new MLM recruits is a bright one and they are promised plenty of training but it’s the wrong type of preparation.

Imagine a NFL rookie being thrust into the tough world of football without protective pads and a helmet and is told to just get out there and “do your best.” It wouldn’t be long before he was being stretchered off. He wasn’t told it’s brutal out there on the field and there are people out there who want to hurt him. He wasn’t prepared mentally for the experience and couldn’t prepare himself for the inevitable knocks.

That’s pretty much how it is for the majority of MLM recruits. They are not put through extensive pre-season training like NFL players. They are very much under-prepared for the field of battle. Just look at the scary drop-out rate. But you can put the brakes on this big drop-out rate in the first three months by preparing them for what to expect. For example:

- Don’t paint a pretty picture for them and let them know it’s going to be tough and they’ll be rejected lots of times

- Let them know it’s most likely their family and friends who’ll be hardest on them

- Train them thoroughly on how to handle rejection and sometimes ridicule

- Be there for them always until they can walk on their own

MLM recruiting can be tough but when you get someone to join your business make sure they know what it’s going to take to build a business. Make sure they are prepared for battle.

It’s a plague that’s filtered through the MLM online world in the past 18 months. It’s the #1 problem for MLM bloggers. Using free blogging services and then seeing your good work washed down the drain.

How do I know? Well, I get emails every day from readers who are almost in tears because Blogger, WordPress or Squidoo, just to name three, shut down their accounts because they violated their policies. To succeed hard work is required and if anyone tells you otherwise it might be a good idea to put on the running shoes and sprint the other way as fast as you can. Sure, once an MLM business is up and running it can seem easy but unless some sweat equity is poured into it in the early stages then nothing is really going to happen.

This also applies to the misconception that internet network marketing is even easier. The fact that it’s based on attracting prospects to ones business funnel rather than going out and chasing and harassing them does not mean there’s no work involved.

Really, the only time one could promote an easy at home business is after they’ve mastered it themselves, are successful and could run it with their eyes closed.

Two Big Home Business Lies

Let’s take a look at where many network marketers have been mis-led in the past. One of the greatest lies in network marketing was prospects being told that anyone could do this business. Another one was that all they had to do was join and all the work would be done for them. Do these two mis-truths sound familiar? I bet they do!

So what happened when someone joined on these two promises? Easy…they went in with a non-work ethic believing they didn’t need to do any work yet success would just happen. And why wouldn’t they? That’s what they were told.

In the internet network marketing landscape the same issues are evident. Many people are sold on the easy home based business idea rather than the truth and running an MLM business online requires plenty of work. The first hurdle people need to be told about is there is a learning curve to come. Wow! The responses floored me. Not one person offered me any training or education at all. Every response wanted to tell me they had the best company and product and now was a great time to join. My PM box was inundated.

I was surprised in a way because a comment was made recently suggesting the Renegade training system is so overdone that every one is now online marketing their business.
