The truth is, there are quite a few but the problem with most of them is that they don’t come all inclusive. In other words, you get the piece of the puzzle in one area and then need to fork out more dollars to get the next piece. That is one of the annoying aspects of trying to build an online business.

But if you are a network marketer, you need to have an online presence at some stage, whether it’s today or sometime in the future. I really encourage you to start a blog. It’s easy. And it’s even easier with Ty’s MLM Blog Secrets course. I actually was in the process of putting a course together before MLM Blog Secrets came along; in fact, had started it but put it on hold when Ty released his. I couldn’t fault it.

As I’ve mentioned before, Ty Tribble is someone I listen to and although I am not connected with him in any way, he gives out a lot of information aim squarely at helping people attract leads into their network marketing business.

One of the things I have been saying all along, ever since attraction marketing became a buzz term five years ago, is that you cannot hope to go wholly and solely online and hope to build a sustainable business. You need to find a happy medium between online and offline. Ty Tribble says the same thing and while I took a little heat on it I never waivered from my thinking.

Network Marketing is all about creating relationships and if you think you can attract people into your business online and never have to talk to anyone then you are kidding yourself. Your business will crumble at some stage. There has to be an interaction between you and your prospect…that’s what network marketing is all about.

Anyways, Ty did a 30 minute webinar a little while ago and he outlines five simple steps to getting started online. He mentions some paid products in the video and seriously, ignore them if you have to. I have listed the links to some of the resources he mentions below. Why is that?

Well, people just don’t know how to use it properly as a business building tool. Is this also the case with network marketing?

Could be but I needed to delve a little deeper and think I have nailed why people fail at network marketing?

Ready?

Most people are focused on making money when they should be focused on building a business. How about that? Does that sound familiar? Yes, we all want to make money and make it quickly but network marketing is the wrong model to make money fast. People become obsessed with making money and losing the sight of the fact that they should be building the business instead.

Does this sound a little like attraction marketing is at play here?

Instead of trying to get the sale it makes more sense to “teach the prospect” to such a point where the sale becomes almost inevitable; and with little push required from you.

So I thought how about a little crash course in building a business that will take care of the money making aspect. You’ve probably heard this before but are you applying it?

How To Set Goals & Win

Here goes.

1. Set goals…you need to set clear, achievable and measurable goals for your business. For example, you want to sign a prospect a week into your business. Is this achievable, clear or measurable?

2. You need to create a plan. The plan has to be time based and realistic. It has to be measurable and above all, practical. In other words, you have to give yourself every chance of achieving it. One of the things I like to do is breaking it down into daily goals. I remember several years ago my daily action plan was to deliver a set amount of flyers each day. This gradually built momentum which went from a trickle to an avalanche. But it was the daily action I took to create it. Write down your daily action targets. This makes a huge difference.

3. You need to review and evaluate your plan. This is crucial. Don’t ever get into a state of mind where it becomes a chore. You have to set your goals realistically; make them so you give yourself every chance of reaching them. This builds enthusiasm and instead of it becoming a chore, you look forward to achieving them. It’s all about feeling good about yourself at the end of the day. So summing up:

- is your plan achievable?
- is it realistic?
- is it time based?
- can you measure your results?

If no to any of these then review and adjust.

4. This is short and simple. You need to execute your plan. You need to take action and make it happen. Someone can give you the light switch but you still need to flick the switch. Make sense.

5. Continuously measure your goals. This is so crucial. Refer to point 3 above about evaluating your goals.

6. Never stop trying to improve your results. You do this by adjusting and improving your plan.

Okay, this went a little longer than I wanted it too but there is more to this that I wanted to add. We’ll look at it in another post. But the above should get you off to a flier with your business. Can you see why people fail doing network marketing? Focusing on building your business instead of making money is crucial.

A colleague of mine who I worked with as a mentor on an internet marketing forum several years ago Jaime Mintun has posted a terrific article naming three steps you can take right now that can turn your online fortunes around.

It doesn’t matter how cute and fancy you get with your internet network marketing business the fact remains, unless you are consistently generating prospects then you will fail to build a business.

I know that’s not what you wanted to hear and from the emails I get it amazes me how many people are still looking for the magic push button system that will flood their inbox with tons of prospects. Remember, this is network marketing and it’s not supposed to be easy. If it was, everyone would be doing it and profiting.

The internet has definitely expanded the possibilities for prospecting and while I am successful online, I still like to brush up on my knowledge and stay informed of what works and what doesn’t. We mentioned Ty Tribble in our last post the the effectiveness of his MLM Blog Secrets course and Ty is one guy whose emails I always head to and read.

Another is Ann Sieg. It was only a few days ago when I was going through my list of resources that I came across one of her products sitting in a file “gathering dust.” It was the Attraction Marketer’s Manifesto and was the follow up to the 7 Great Lies Of Network Marketing and The Renegade Network Marketer.

The Attraction Marketer’s Manifesto was released in 2009 and is a must read. Having a little spare time on my hands I decided to sit down and read it again and it still had the same effect on me as when I first read it. For sheer quality information and strategies on how to attract prospects without doing the hard sell that everyone hates then this is a must.

What is it about? In a nutshell, it’s about how to capitalize on “attraction marketing” yourself so you can never run out of true prospects for your business. We’re talking about qualified prospects; the ones who come to you and and won’t give you a mouth full of abuse in the process.

If haven’t read The Attraction Marketer’s Manifesto yet then do yourself a favor and grab a copy. It’s free and always has been and will make a huge difference to the way you approach your prospecting.

It’s one of the major topics Ann Sieg teaches in her attraction marketing courses. It’s you that you need to sell, not your business opportunity.

One of the biggest problems I see with network marketers who use Facebook as a lead generation tool is that they are too heavy handed in trying to sell their business opportunity to fans rather than themselves. And it all starts with your profile. In fact it doesn’t matter what social media platform you use, your profile is either going to make or break your chances of getting someone interested in you and your business.

It’s like window shopping. Have you ever waked past a shop front and noticed something in the window that immediately gets your attention. You want to stop and walk into the store and learn more. It’s the same with a good profile.

When someone reads or hears something you say that resonates with them they will usually do a search and want to learn more. This is the art of selling yourself and a good profile can tell a lot about a person.

When you are able to sell yourself to the prospect, then you are well on your way to having them wanting to know more of what you teach, and ultimately as a network marketing business partner.

In fact, in attraction marketing terms, they will be the ones who usually make the front running and eventually come to you. That’s almost unheard of in the network marketing industry but give it a try and watch your prospecting results improve significantly.

I came across an excellent post from Eldon Beard at ThatmlmBeat.com who talks about getting the most from your social media profile. He writes:

“Many people are out there looking for a way to make money from home. They are looking not only for a good opportunity, but for someone they feel comfortable working with. When they like a post or some other content you’ve created, or read details about your home business, they are likely to click on your profile to learn more about you.”

The truth is, and this is a big network marketing tip, we are all sellers. Not in the sense that we are like used car salesman, ( and I don’t mean to offend used car salesman) where we are onto a customer as soon as he steps across the line into the car yard, but we are on a mission all the time selling ourselves.

It’s you that is the selling point in the network marketing business and when you sell yourself to others, magic happens. This is one of the principles that makes attraction marketing such a powerful strategy.

Convincing someone to buy something is fraught with danger…it might be okay for that used car salesman but in network marketing there is such a lot at stake. For starters the persons future. The majority of people coming into network marketing for the first time do so for a reason, whether it’s because they want something better in life, to make a little extra money or to create a secure financial future for themselves and their families.

If you have to convince them to come into the business and they fail, and the chances are strong that they will if you check the statistics, you’ve just helped them fail in their bid to better their future. Okay, maybe that’s a bit harsh but the fact is, it’s you they are going to remember for getting them into the business and that won’t be a good memory.

Instead, if you had sold yourself and they joined because they saw you as someone who could help them reach their goals, then you’ve just made a sale; you’ve sold yourself and whether they make a success of it or not, you have given them all the information they needed to make their own informed decision.

Came across an article by Vince Giorno who looks at the subject of selling in network marketing. Vince doesn’t mince words here and it’s a must read. I think he really hits home the point that many network marketers want to hide behind the fact they are sellers. Click here to read the post and then come back and leave a comment.

You know you have to talk to people and if you don’t, no leads come into your business and basically, without leads it’s dead in the water. But do you know that if approaching people about your MLM business is not your thing, whether they be family, friends or strangers there is a way to attract people to you without you chasing them.

It’s called attraction marketing and when Ann Sieg introduced this concept to me several years ago, the light bulb went on and suddenly, building a network marketing business got a whole lot easier…well, at least prospecting did!

When Anne rolled out her attraction marketing model to the world she copped a lot of criticism from hard core MLMers who scoffed at the suggestion leads could to you instead of vice versa. But the truth is, they can and it’s all about giving value and earning the right to be able to pitch your opportunity to your prospect.

Most make the mistake of pitching from the get go, even before the introductions have been made. Think about this, why would a complete stranger trust what you have to say or sell without some proof? Why would they even consider looking at your network marketing business without getting some value from you first.

Here’s the key; before you earn the right to sell your opportunity to your prospect you need to sell yourself.

Read that a few times and understand that the message here is not about you, it’s about your prospect. Attraction marketing online is as easy as putting up a blog, creating an opt in box that offers something of good value for a name and email, following up with your prospects with more value-added training, and then when you have their trust, either they come to you and ask you what you’re doing or you recommend to them.
