Facebook has become an integral part of the relationship building process in building a network marketing business online. Done correctly, it’s a fertile prospecting ground but the problem is, many, even the most experienced of us make at least one of the mistakes we list in trying to build our businesses using Facebook.

Social networking is a powerful platform for finding hot, targeted leads online. As an internet network marketer, aggressive sales tactics just don’t work online and you will be made to feel “like a leper” if you employ them.

Using Facebook to build a business means there are some topics which are taboo. Look, we’re not saying you need to zip your lip completely but if you start a Facebook account solely for business persons then the number one rule is not to alienate people.

Apart from using aggressive sales tactics, the following five topics are taboo for internet network marketers and bloggers on Facebook.

- A negative attitude

- Sport

- Religion

- Sex

- Politics

Negativity is a big killer for budding successful internet network marketers. Who wants to join someone who’s down on everything.

Sport is a great discussion point at most social gatherings but not when you are trying to attract leads for your business. Why? Because if you get into a difference of opinion with someone you’ve created a sporting enemy and spite then comes into play especially if you upset their feelings.

Religion is a hot topic and a good one for debate. But as a business building, lead generating topic just forget it. Much for the same reasons mentioned for sport.

Sex, well this doesn’t need much explaining at all does it. It’s a great topic some of the time but could be a real turn off for someone thinking about joining you in business.

And politics. Well, for example, if you are a Republican and get involved in banter with a Democrat on Facebook who looked a really good prospect feelings are going to be hurt and your hot lead will disappear off your prospecting radar faster than you could blink.

The one common denominator with most of the above is the topics mentioned cause ill feeling because most lead to disagreement and spite. As a way to attract network marketing leads on Facebook, they are definitely in that no go zone.

Keep it to fun, family and food and add some really valuable content and your Facebook account will soon become a lead attraction magnet.
