One of the reasons is that many so-called experts have come out and declared it’s too laborious and takes up too much time instead preferring to promote and use more automated ways of getting traffic.

Always post to your blog first before rewriting and posting to article directories because if you post the same content everywhere, then because your blog isn’t at the level of authority some of the article directories are, you’ll find they will rank well ahead of you.
